Dryweed Island is a boat-in campsite — site R11 — on Rainy Lake in Voyageurs National Park, about three miles by water from the Rainy Lake Visitor Center. Boaters tie up at an 8-by-20-foot crib dock with a floating section; the Park Service marker on shore reads ‘Dryweed Island.’

The small site holds up to nine people and comes with two tent pads, two bear-proof food lockers, a picnic table, a fire ring, and an outdoor vault privy. Campfires and pets are allowed. A separate site, Dryweed Island North (R73), sits farther up the same island with sand access and no dock. As at all of the park’s frontcountry sites, camping is by reservation and permit only, booked through Recreation.gov and posted in the box on the bear locker at your site.

Rules for this place

Every campsite in Voyageurs National Park is by advance permit or reservation, arranged before you go; the park’s camping page sets out how. A fire in the park belongs in the established metal ring, and the park’s conditions page carries the closures and burning restrictions in force. Food, garbage and anything scented goes in a vehicle, a metal bear-proof locker, or hung well up and out from a tree; the park’s bear and food storage rules say so plainly. Minnesota’s invasive species law rides home with the trailer: pull the drain plug, drain the water, and leave plants and prohibited species at the access.
