Dusty Road is a Koochiching County Land and Forestry road that leaves County Road 77 in the county forest north of Big Falls and runs straight into aspen and birch as a mowed, grassy two-track. The county’s brown routed-letter sign at the entrance reads DUSTY ROAD, KOOCH CO. FORESTRY, and the green sign beneath it sets the rules: foot travel and ATV use are welcome, and the road is closed to highway vehicles when wet to protect the road bed.
County forest lands like this one are multiple-use public land, managed for recreation, wildlife and timber by Koochiching County Land and Forestry out of the courthouse in International Falls. Expect grass underfoot rather than gravel. It is a walking and ATV route more than a drive, with no services and no cell coverage to count on.
The photograph here is from an August visit to the entrance. The road’s far end has not been walked for this listing.
