The Linden Grove Township Hall stands along Minnesota Highway 1 in southern Saint Louis County, its white clapboard gable proudly dated 1926. The hall is the seat of Linden Grove Township — Township 62 North, Range 20 West — home to 113 residents at the 2020 census and to the unincorporated communities of Linden Grove and Meadow Brook. Like every Minnesota township, its affairs are run by an elected town board, with the annual town meeting held the second Tuesday of March — a tradition the little hall has hosted for nearly a century.
The township sits in remarkable surroundings: Kabetogama State Forest — 621,499 acres and the gateway to Voyageurs National Park and the Boundary Waters — reaches in from the north, while Sturgeon River State Forest (170,587 acres, partly inside Superior National Forest) covers much of the township itself. The Little Fork River winds through on its way north to the Rainy, passing under the Highway 1 bridge at river mile 124.6, just a mile above the Class VI drop of Hannine Falls. The region’s last major log drive ran down these waters in 1937.
