Pine Aire Resort sits on the south shore of Lake Kabetogama, about 3 miles off Highway 53. It’s been a family-run spot for years, and the current owners, Denise and Niles, are the kind of people who’ll help you back your trailer in, point you toward where the walleye have been hitting, and still have the coffee going when you drag yourself back to the dock at dark.
They’ve got 15 comfortable cabins where you can relax after a day on the water. All clean, all with WiFi (yes, even out there), charcoal grills, and decks looking out at the lake.
The Harbor
Here’s the thing most people don’t know until they get there: Pine Aire has one of the only naturally protected harbors on Kab. If you’ve ever been on Kabetogama when the wind picks up — and it will — you know what that’s worth. Your boat stays put, even when it gets rough.
Fishing
Kabetogama is one of the top walleye lakes in the state, and Pine Aire puts you right on it. Northern pike are there too if you want to mix it up. The resort does boat, motor, and pontoon rentals if you didn’t bring your own, and they’ve got guided tours and water taxi service to get you into Voyageurs National Park. If you haven’t explored from the Kab side, is worth the trip.
Not Just a Fishing Resort
It’s a solid family spot too. There’s a sand beach and swimming area for the kids, paddleboats and canoes to mess around in, and a lodge where people tend to end up in the evenings. They’ve also got a campground with RV hookups if cabins aren’t your thing. And it’s pet friendly, so the dog can come.
