Vermilion Gorge Trail is a Superior National Forest hiking trail that starts near the Crane Lake landing and runs along the Vermilion River to the gorge. The trailhead sign posts the distance to the gorge at 1.5 miles, and the route has plenty of ups and downs across rough, rooty terrain. In early spring there are still patches of ice in shaded sections. Parking is shared with the Crane Lake public landing, so during houseboat season the lot can fill up with trailers from operators like Voyagaire Houseboats.
